Mission

Act as MobyFly’s on-site owner’s representative during the construction of the boat, foils, and tooling, ensuring structural quality, manufacturing correctness, and production readiness.

The role combines hands-on shopfloor oversight with a strong Manufacturing Engineering / Methods (“Bureau des Méthodes”) responsibility: making sure drawings, processes, and work instructions are usable, correctly applied, and aligned with design intent and structural integrity.

Primary focus: composite structural quality and systems finalization.

Key Responsabilities

1. On-site Composite Production Oversight

Maintain a strong daily presence at the yard/workshop.

Oversee composite manufacturing of :

  • Primary and secondary composite structures
  • Foils

Ensure execution in strict accordance with :

  • Approved drawings and laminate schedules
  • Defined manufacturing processes (infusion, prepreg, wet layup)

Structural bonding and assembly procedures

Validate build sequences against structural assumptions and design intent.

2. Quality Control & Structural Compliance

Define and enforce critical inspection and hold points.

Perform or supervise :

  • Visual inspections
  • Dimensional checks

BV Testing and inspections

Identify non-conformities, assess structural impact, and drive corrective actions.

Hold authority to stop production when quality, safety, or structural integrity is at risk.

3. Manufacturing Engineering / Methods (Bureau des Méthodes)

Own and structure production documentation, ensuring manufacturing readiness :

  • Review and validate build packages before release to the manufacturers, identifying gaps between design assumptions and manufacturing constraints.
  • Ensure alignment between Design drawings / Tooling and shopfloor reality / Quality and certification requirements
  • Foresee tooling and jig requirements

Translate engineering intent into executable production plans :

  • Manufacturing BOMs where applicable
  • Capture lessons learned into controlled documentation for series production focusing on improving repeatability and cycle time

Ensure an updated complete building package exists by the end of the construction of the S1.

4. Manufacturing Robustness & Scale-Up

Capture lessons learned from MBFY-S to improve :

  • Manufacturability
  • Process robustness
  • Repeatability

Profile & Experience

1. Technical Background

  • Senior-level expert in composite marine structures
  • Proven experience with high-performance boats, foiling vessels, or advanced composite structures
  • Strong understanding of systems interfaces and interdependencies

2. Manufacturing Engineering / Methods

Demonstrated ability to run a methods function :

  • Full boat building processes
  • Drawing review and release discipline
  • Revision and deviation control
  • High attention to detail and documentation rigor

3. Field-Oriented Mindset

  • Strongly hands-on, comfortable working daily on the shopfloor
  • Able to take clear, independent decisions under production pressure
  • Recognised authority on quality and structural integrity

4. Quality & Certification Awareness

Familiar with marine standards and compliance frameworks :

  • Classification societies (DNV, Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s, etc.) / ISO / CE)

Interfaces & Reporting

  • Works closely with the Chief Design & Industrialization for program delivery and integration readiness.
  • Interfaces daily with engineering, workshop teams, and external build partners.
  • Able to travel between extensively Bouveret in Swizerland (head quarters and design office), Lisbon-Porto in Portugal (shipyard and local offices), and other production spots.
